My clients had just finished extensive refurbishment and building work on their beautiful Kentish farmhouse and were now ready to concentrate on creating the garden around the house. I decided to design four different areas which linked together in sympathy with the architecture of the house. These were all approached by the driveway where I planted an avenue of cherry trees underplanted with spring bulbs. By the kitchen I created two large yorkstone terraces with inset benches within beautiful planting and with a large table and chairs for outside dining. Outside the sitting room I created a formal garden with two central symmetrical beds with strong focal points of large witch hazels underplanted with evergreen ferns and box hedging. The formal garden then linked with a woodland garden which included a central lawn enclosed with hornbeam hedging and borders set beneath a magnificent old oak tree.
