My clients had a beautiful Victorian cottage built beside Leigh Church with lovely village views. The garden had been left for many years and was in need of a complete redesign. My brief was to create a cottage garden full of planting that looked completely at home in its natural village setting.
I created a large old york stone terrace by the house for entertaining surrounded by lawn and cottage scented planting. An old brick path led the way in to the garden and on to the front door surrounded by beautiful planting. The large lawn in the middle of the garden was flanked with generous wide cottage borders and yew hedging leading up to the top of the garden. Here I designed an old brick seating area with lovely views over the village and green. The cottage planting included three specimen cherry trees, lavender, perovskia, climbing roses, clematis, hydrangeas, paeonies, delphiniums, lupins, alliums, astrantia, alchemilla and verbena.
