I deliver a full garden design package from concept to completion and have listed the following stages of the garden design process below which I hope will be helpful.
The initial consultation and site visit allows me to see your garden, meet you, discuss your project in more detail and to explain the different stages of the design process. We can discuss your functional and aesthetic aspirations for the garden, how you would like to use it and finally create an agreed client brief for your garden. After meeting you I can then prepare a quote for my design fees and, if approved, I then book in your project and advise a start date.
As a starting point a topological survey with levels is needed and this forms the template for the whole design process. I return to your garden to meet the surveyor I use to go through the specifics of the survey and levels needed. At the same time, we can discuss your project in greater detail and additionally I can take a series of reference photos, some soil tests and I can make a detailed analysis of your existing garden.
Working with the survey, client brief and my site analysis I prepare an Outline Conceptual Plan for your garden and a bespoke Pinterest board giving ideas of style, materials, structures, planting and colours. I return to present this to you, so we get a really good insight for my proposal, and we can discuss any thoughts or questions you may have including any amendments.
After making any amendments, I prepare the Master Plan which will include all the amendments agreed, all details of the design, labels and levels ready for the tender process and construction. I return to present this to you and we can move on to discuss planting and colours in greater detail.
I write the Specification Document which is in A4 format and includes all of the details of the construction process cross referenced with the Master Plan ready for tender. I return to present to you and we can next discuss the construction process in more detail. At this point, if requested, I can organise three quotes from the excellent independent landscapers I use to build my gardens.
I prepare the Planting Plans and Plant Photo Sheets showing all of the plants for the planting areas marked on the Master Plan and a comprehensive Plant List ready for order. I return to present to you. This is one of the most exciting meetings as you can really see your new garden taking shape
3D visualisations, animations and ‘walk throughs’ can be prepared and are charged for as an extra cost to my quote. These would be fully quoted for you if requested. Many of my clients choose to go ahead with one of these options as they’re a wonderful way of seeing our ideas for your garden further come to life visually.
Once the garden build has begun I can oversee the construction, normally with a weekly site meeting or by email, text message or phone, which helps ensure the garden is built exactly as the design and to the very best standard. I can source and order all the plants needed for your garden and also set out all the plants and plant with an assistant if needed. I can also prepare a Maintenance Schedule which shows a photo of each plant with written notes listing the yearly care needed to keep your plants and garden looking beautiful from year to year.
